Astrolab, a startup company, has announced that it has signed a contract with SpaceX to reserve a spot on an uncrewed Starship cargo mission to the moon as early as mid-2026, marking SpaceX’s first commercial cargo contract to the lunar surface. Astrolab’s vehicle, the Flexible Logistics and Exploration (FLEX) rover, will carry equipment, supplies, and up to two astronauts across the lunar surface. The company already has customers waiting to use the rover during the 2026 Starship mission and hopes to use FLEX to build a permanent human presence on the Moon and Mars, ultimately becoming a catalyst for the off-Earth economy.
